Lieutenant Joseph Yakavonis

Subject to the direction of the Chief of Police, the Lieutenant has direct control over all members and employees of the police department. He is responsible for the direction and control of personnel under his command to assure the proper performance of duties and adherence to established rules, regulations, policies and procedures. He is second in command and assists the Chief of Police with administration of the police department.

The Lieutenant for the Hanson Police Department is Joseph Yakavonis . Lieutenant Yakavonis has been the Executive Officer for the police department since August 2006. Lieutenant Yakavonis directly supervises the Sergeants, the Detective, and the Court Prosecutor, the DARE Officer, the School Resource Officer and the auxiliary police contingent.

Responsibilities:

The lieutenant’s duties and responsibilities encompass discipline and morale issues, personnel training, equipment, case management and procurement. The lieutenant is also assigned to investigate personnel complaints at the direction of the Chief of Police.


Lieutenant Yakavonis is also responsible for establishing criteria for the recruitment of future department personnel and establishing the screening process for prospective employees. Full-time police officers are generally hired from within the ranks of the auxiliary police contingent. Although we are not hiring now, those interested in employment with the Hanson Police Department can forward a letter of interest and resume to Lieutenant Gredler’s attention.
