Officer
Brian F.
Watson is the designated School Resource Officer
for the Police Department. He has served in this capacity
since 1999. The position of School Resource Officer
was made possible through a grant from U. S. Department
of Justice, Community Oriented Policing Services Program.
Officer Watson is assigned to community policing patrol
in and around Hanson’s primary and secondary schools.
His duties and responsibilities encompass safety and
security for approximately 2,100 Hanson students from
Kindergarten through grade 12.
Officer Watson is the police department’s liaison
with the school district’s safety and security
staff while accomplishing these goals.

D.A.R.E. program, The Student Police Academy, The Student
Intern Program and presides over many extracurricular
events in the schools system. He also coordinates regularly
with the school principals and guidance personnel on
student safety and educational issues.
Since it’s inception, the school resource officer’s
active presence in Hanson’s four schools has brought
about effective, positive change among the youth in
our community. The Hanson Police Department and the
school district have achieved a cooperative partnership
in addressing issues concerning Hanson’s schools
and the youth in our community. These efforts have been
recognized and lauded by parents, students, teachers,
school staff, residents, town government and our own
police officers. These initiatives have helped to eradicate
qualms and reservations of police held by many adults
and youths.
